The
West Beach Aviation Group Inc is an informal group of around 35 aviation
enthusiasts, located in Adelaide, who are dedicated in researching and recording
aviation history in South Australia. The Group records current aviation events
and researches events of the past, to produce a complete record of aviation in
S.A. Monthly meetings of members are held to exchange information and
photographs, and to co-ordinate group activities.
The W.B.A.G. was established in 1962 starting off
with four like minded aviation enthusiasts meeting at Adelaide Airport or at
later at private homes to exchange information. In the 1960's members searched
farmlands of S.A. to record the location and details of Avro Anson &
Airspeed Oxford aircraft that had been sold off after WWII.
Group visits are made to airshows, fly-ins and airport crawls visiting airfields around Australia. Re-enactment flights to
commemorate early airmail flights are also undertaken. In 1996 the Group, in
partnership with retired T.A.A. staff undertook a special flight in a DC-3 from
Melbourne to Parafield and return. This was to celebrate the 50th anniversary of
the first TAA flight to S.A.
A member of the Group produces South Australian Air
Journal (est. 1972) which records a snap shot of aviation happenings in SA for
the previous 3 months.
